    Unnaryd Modell’s bold investment paid off.

    Unnaryd Modell had primarily focused on producing prototypes. However, when the company was offered the opportunity to manufacture a former prototype in larger volumes with weekly deliveries, it needed to rethink its approach.

    “The timeframe was tight. We turned to Duroc Machine Tool, and we are very pleased that we did,”

    A tight timeframe required a completely new approach.

    Unnaryd in southern Sweden is known for its many businesses. The entrepreneurial spirit seems to be embedded in people’s DNA, or at least in the local culture.

    Unnaryd Modell is a prime example of this entrepreneurial spirit. The steadily growing family-owned company specialises in producing aluminium and ferrous alloy components for the automotive and engineering industries. 

    “We focus on development and are constantly taking the next step. This contributes to our growth. Over the years, we have accumulated extensive technical experience, and all our employees are highly skilled,” says Martin. 

    Unnaryd Modell specialises in manufacturing cast and machined components for prototypes and small, customised production runs. Larger volumes are normally produced by other companies in the industry. 

    However, the company was offered the opportunity to manufacture a complex component in larger volumes, bridging the gap between prototype production and full-scale manufacturing. This allowed the customer to bring its products to market significantly faster. For Unnaryd Modell, it required a new approach. 

    “We were attracted by the challenge. That is how you think when you are focused on technology and solutions,” says Martin.

    Higher output with a DN Solutions CNC milling machine and Fastems automation.

    To manufacture the new and complex component, Unnaryd Modell needed to invest in a machining solution consisting of a robust, high-speed machine and a suitable automation system.

    “We turned to Duroc Machine Tool. We had not worked with them before, but we were interested in a milling machine capable of delivering high output,” says Henrik Hermansson, Team Leader at Unnaryd Modell. 

    One factor made the project particularly challenging. Unnaryd Modell’s customer needed the components quickly. 

    “Our timeframe was very short, and meeting the schedule was an absolute requirement,” says Martin. 

    Duroc Machine Tool’s proposal included a 4-axis horizontal milling machine, the DN Solutions NHP 5000, together with a Fastems automation cell. A project team from Duroc Machine Tool worked closely with the team at Unnaryd Modell to install and commission the solution. 

    “Duroc Machine Tool delivered according to plan in every respect. I am impressed,” says Martin. 

    The Fastems FPC-1000 pallet automation system is compact. Henrik, who frequently works hands-on in production, finds it easy to operate. 

    The milling machine is efficient and stable. 

    “I had never worked with this control system before and wondered whether it would be complicated. But it is not. It is easy to understand and very intuitive,” says Henrik.

    “The collaboration has exceeded all our expectations”.

    Martin, Henrik and the rest of the Unnaryd Modell team have always been able to contact Duroc Machine Tool whenever they have had questions.

    “They are easy to reach and have worked professionally with our team. The collaboration has exceeded all our expectations,” says Martin. 

    “We will almost certainly invest in more cells of this type,” Henrik concludes.
