More than a decade of partnership in developing Mincon Finland’s machining methods.
Mincon Finland, based in Ylöjärvi, has worked with Duroc Machine Tool for more than ten years. During the partnership, Duroc Machine Tool has supplied Mincon with numerous machines, continuously improving and automating its production.
Mincon Finland is part of the international Mincon Group, which is known for its high-quality ground drilling systems. Mincon’s products are used for applications such as geothermal and water well drilling, as well as installing piles in demanding ground conditions.
Its customers include construction companies, energy companies and the mining industry in Finland and around the world.
Machining with accuracy down to one-thousandth of a millimetre.
Construction companies, water and geothermal drilling specialists and mining businesses rely on Mincon’s expertise when the ground must be drilled efficiently, accurately and reliably. This places high demands on the company’s machine tools.
According to Tommi Kivistö, Manufacturing Manager at Mincon, there is no room for compromise in machining:
“Our products require accuracy down to one-thousandth of a millimetre, and our machines must be capable of meeting that requirement.”
Duroc Machine Tool has been an important partner in achieving this.
“Together with Duroc Machine Tool, we have selected the right machines for our production. They are powerful, precise and customised to meet our needs,” Tommi explains.
Mincon Finland manufactures ring bits, drill bits, down-the-hole hammers and shock absorbers. Every product requires exceptional dimensional accuracy.
“Our ground drilling systems are highly engineered products manufactured with accuracy down to one-thousandth of a millimetre. This simply cannot be achieved with just any machine,” says Kivistö.
Customised features are key to production efficiency.
Modern machines, customised features and advanced automation have significantly improved production.
“Machining times have been reduced to as little as one-third of what they were previously. The difference compared with our old methods is considerable,” says Tommi Kivistö.
“Larger and more efficient machines also improve our competitiveness and increase production throughput.”
“Duroc Machine Tool’s key strengths are its expertise in machine customisation, technical support, service and customer care,” Kivistö explains. “We maintain an ongoing dialogue and work together to develop our machining and production methods, including our automation solutions.”
“Most of our machine tools have been equipped with additional features that were not even available directly from the manufacturer. Together with Duroc Machine Tool, we have customised the machines with features such as additional axes and in-process quality control,” Tommi says.
Mincon’s factory currently has approximately 20 machines supplied by Duroc Machine Tool, including:
- A new HM1250 horizontal machining centre installed in early 2025
- 4-axis and 5-axis machining centres
- An SMX multitasking turning centre
- An automatic bar-fed lathe
- Several multi-spindle lathes
- Two robotic machine-tending cells in which robots load and unload the machines
Every solution has been developed together with Duroc Machine Tool, based on Mincon’s specific requirements.
Duroc Machine Tool, a reliable partner for delivery, service and technical support.
Mincon particularly appreciates the customer service and technical support provided by Duroc Machine Tool.
“Whenever we have needed assistance, we have received help quickly. Problems have often even been resolved over the phone,” says Kivistö.
Duroc Machine Tool understands that a partnership does not end when a machine is delivered. The machines must remain operational day after day, week after week and year after year.
Choosing a reliable partner is essential for building and maintaining trust between Mincon and its own customers. According to Tommi, everything has run smoothly:
“Our machine utilisation rate has remained at 90%. It is important to have a reliable partner and solutions that work, so we can keep our delivery promises to our customers.”
